Moodubelle, 29 September 2011: In the 43rd Grama Panchayath bi-election for the 2nd block conducted on 25th September for the seat became vacant after Devadas Hebbar became President of Udupi Taluk Panchayath, BJP supported candidate K. Rama Acharya defeated his nearest contestant Independent candidate Karunakara Shetty with 78 votes and won the election. Among the total 556 votes, K. Rama Acharya received 195 votes and Karunakara Shetty received 117 votes.
There were total 5 candidates, the other 3 candidates are Albert Martis, Henry Monis and Paul Fernandes. K. Rama Acharya is the Proprietor of Sri Ram Jewellers and is the son of K. Vasudeva Acharya. Karunakara Shetty who stood for the election for the first time is the owner of Belle Muttu Ricksha and Tourist Car. The election was held at the Kattingeri Anganavadi Kendra on Sunday 25th September 2011.
In a brief celebration of the result of the election, K. Rama Acharya was congratulated with garland by Devdas Hebbar - President of Taluk Panchayath and other BJP leaders and supporters. Supporters burst fire crackers outside, upon the winning of the election.
