Mangalore, 04 Sept: Teachers’ Day 2024 was celebrated by the Catholic Board of Education on September 3rd at Shanthi Kian, Bajjodi, Mangalore. As in the previous years, the event honouring teachers and non-teaching staff who retired during the 2023-2024 academic year, as well as students who achieved the highest marks and ranks in SSLC, PUC, Degree, and Post Graduation examinations. Additionally, institutions that secured 100 percent results were also felicitated on this occasion.
The program began at 10 a.m. with a prayer dance performed by the students of St.Aloysius English Medium School, Urwa. The Secretary, Dr. Praveen Leo Lasrado, welcomed the gathering. At the outset, Rev. Fr. Johnson Sequeira, Principal of Lourdes Central School, paid homage to the staff and students who had passed away and gone to their heavenly abode during the year 2023-2024.
During the program, 25 meritorious students were felicitated with a merit certificate and a memento by the Secretary, Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado and 31 High Schools and 2 PU Colleges, who secured 100 percent results during 2023-2024 were honored by Rev. Fr Santhosh Rodrigues, Director of the Pastoral Centre, Bajjodi. The President of the program, Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of the Mangalore Diocese and President of the Catholic Board of Education felicitated 55 retired teaching and non-teaching staff with great respect for their dedicated service in the institutions managed by the CBE.
On behalf of the retired teachers, Rev. Fr. Jerome D’Souza, Principal of Sacred Heart PU College, Madanthyar, and Smt. Gretta Costa, Headmistress of St. Raphael Higher Primary School, Thenkakarandur, shared their experience.On this occasion, Smt. Nirmala Pinto and Sri Vijay Fernandes were also felicitated for their 25 years of dedicated service in the office of the Catholic Board of Education.
In his address the President Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said that the influence of teachers in our lives is like a guiding light and a source of inspiration for others.
Sri Aloysius D’Souza, member of the Governing Board and the Headmaster of St Aloysius Eng Med School, Urwa proposed the vote of thanks and Smt. Matilda D’Costa, Headmistress, St Rita Eng Med School, Cascia, compered the program.Smt. Patricia Lobo, Smt. Irene Sequeira, Smt. Therese D’Mello, and Smt. Alice K.G.and Smt Gretta Lobo assisted in reading the names of the retired teachers,students, and the institutions. The students of St. Joseph High School, Bajpe with a heart-touching farewell song gave respect to the retired teachers for their service. The program concluded with lunch.
