Udupi: Agricultural labourers conduct strike for housing

Udupi, 26 August 2011: Karnataka State Agricultural Labourers Union - Kundapur Taluk Samiti began 3 days strike on Thursday, in front of Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s Office, demanding housing plots to those who do not have their own house and also with other demands of labourers under the Grameena Udyoga Khatri Yojane.


 
Already this Samiti has conducted the protest strike in front of Deputy Commissioner’s Office on 9th May 2011 demanding housing plots and to resolve the issues of labourers, but there has been no action so far. Therefore, as per the direction of the Sangha all over the state the protest strike is being conducted, said those who are conducting the strike.

 


 
The protest is being led by Taluk Sangha Secretary Venkatesha Koni and other leaders; Dogu Suvarna, Mahabala Vaderahobali, Adamaru Shripathi Acharya, H. Narasimha, Rajiv Padukone, Subrahmanya Achar, Javaja, Baby, Manjula and others.


 
The demands of the Samithi are as follows.
 
• There has been no action from the petition submitted to Kundapura and Baindoor Tashildar for the distribution of housing plots, therefore immediately the housing plots to be issued to the applicants.
 
• Under the Udyoga Khatari Yojane, in Kundapura Taluk, even though the specifid duration is completed some of the labourers are not being released, such things should not happen.
 
• In Nada Grama Panchayath area, under Udyoga Khatari Yojane the labourers had submitted applications for work under clause 6,  but the work was not provided within 15 days thus violated the rule, those labourers are to be paid the allowances.
 
• In Nada Grama Panchayath area, under Udyoga Khatari Yojane, 29 labourers are travelling 8 km for work, they are to be paid travelling allowances.
 
• Under the Udyoga Khatari Yojane, the labourers should be paid Rs. 180 – 195 as per provision instead of Rs. 120.
 
• In Kunkapura, Karnataka Cashew Development Company is paying less wages than specified under Udyoga Khatari Yojane, this cheating has to be stopped.
 
• Thondemakki – Vidyanagara of Baindoor Grama Panchayath area, for those who do not have their own house, the housing plots to be allotted.
 
• Maidinapura, New Colony of Shiruru Grama Panchayath area, the minorities who are living in the government land has to be allotted the land granting by D.C.


 
The coordinators of the protest have said that the protest strike will continue on Friday in front of D.C. Office.
