Malpe, 21 August 2011: As long as I remain as the Chief Minister I am committed to make Udupi district an beautiful tourist sanctuary, announced Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda. He was speaking upon laying the foundation stone for the construction of 32 feet tall single stone statue of Madhwacharya at Malpe sea shore, which will be constructed with a cost of about 2 crore rupees.
Speaking further CM said that, similarly rupees 5 crores will be released for the construction of the 120 feet tall statue of Kalinga Mardana Krishna in St. Mary’s Island. Hence Udupi will be made into a world tourism center, he said.

Raghupathi Bhat, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Lalaji Mendon, Laxminarayana, Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary, Taluk Panchayath President Devdas Hebbar, Municipal Corporation President Kiran Kumar and others had participated.
Also present on the occasion were; the Project In charge Engineer from Centre Arun Kumar, Designer of the statue Artist Purushothama Adwe and Sooralu Venkataramana Bhat the Sculptor who shall be carving this statue.
Assuring of resolving the fishermen’s issues on priority Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda has announced projects for the fishermen costing crores of rupees. Visiting Udupi for the first time after becoming the Chief Minister, D.V. Sadananda Gowda who is also the MP of Udupi – Chickmagalur Constituency, was speaking upon receiving felicitation from various Associations of Fishermen.
CM said that a fishing harbor for the fishing boats will be constructed costing rupees 30 crores in Bandoor, connecting roads to the fishing roads in the coast with a cost of rupees 5 crores and cleaning of shore from Malpe to Udyavara, all these projects will be started, he said. CM gave clearance to the request put forward by the MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat to convert the monthly subsidy on diesel to annual subsidy for fishing boats. If there are any more issues, those can be addressed through a committee by meeting him and we shall resolve them, he said.
Chief Minister also laid foundation stone to the 3rd stage construction work of the port at Bapu Thota of Kaup, which is being constructed with an estimated cost of rupees 37 crores.
