Mangaluru, 28 Feb 2023: With rising temperatures, chickenpox cases are increasing among both children and adults in Dakshina Kannada district. Failure to maintain hygiene can exacerbate the severity of the disease.
There is currently no specific vaccine for chickenpox. Senior officials from the health department have noted that cases are usually seen from January to May.
Chickenpox primarily affects children, and maintaining hygiene is crucial to preventing its spread. Infected children should be kept at home as the disease can spread quickly.
Sudhakar, the DDPI of public instruction, reported that only a few cases have been detected in some schools. School authorities have been instructed to ask infected students to stay home.
Chickenpox spreads through Varicella and Joster viruses via breathing, contaminated food or water, and airborne particles. Boils develop on the face and body for around five to six days, with fever, cold, and headache accompanying the disease. Boils are primarily seen on the face, stomach, and back.
It is important to maintain good skin hygiene, follow proper care guidelines, and consult with a doctor. Antiseptic measures must be taken, and boils should not be touched to avoid scarring.
Once a person has had chickenpox, they develop antibodies against the disease. However, if they contract it a second time, consulting a doctor is recommended. On the third day, the eyes may also turn red due to chickenpox, according to health department officials.
