Puttur, 02 Oct 2022: Prof Udaya Kaana, vice principal and HoD of Mathematics of St Philomena College, retired from service on attaining superannuation on September 30.
Prof Udaya Kaana, served in the teaching profession for the past 37 years.
Prof Udaya K was born on September 22, 1962. He obtained his early education from Sri Krishna Vidyodaya School, Kanadka, near Alike, Pre -University education from Sathyasai Educational Institution, Alike, Mangaluru and Degree Education from SDM College, Ujire and Vivekananda College, Puttur. He did MSc and MPhil from Mangalore University.
Prof Udaya started his professional career as lecturer in Mathematics at Milagres College, Udupi in 1987. After extending service for 15 years over there, he was transferred to St Philomena College, Puttur in 2002. Since then he has been working with St Philomena College.
During his tenure of service, he had been the director of Science Forum, Student Welfare Officer, IQAC Coordinator, Dean of Science and Vice Principal. He was the president of Association of Mathematics Teachers of Mangalore University. He was a member of the Board of Studies (BOS) and Board of Examination (BOE) of Mathematics of University as well as various Autonomous colleges.
Mathematics is considered the Queen of Science. It is Abstract Science and seldom students feel tough to understand the concepts. Prof Udaya taught the subject with ease and grace and reached the students and created a love for the subject with his unique ways. Students adored him as the finest teacher of Mathematics.
With due regard to the meritorious service rendered by Prof Udaya for the cause of education and institution, Fr Jerome Lawrence Mascarenhas, correspondent of the College, Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the college and the Management Committee extended best wishes for a happy and fruitful retired life.
