Mangaluru, 30 Dec 2021: ‘The role of journalists in building healthy society is enormous,’ said Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamath.
Kamath was speaking after inaugurating Sadhane Sambhrama – 2021, convention of DK district journalists at Town Hall, here on Tuesday, December 28 morning.
He also said, ‘Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association is doing a noteworthy job. The village-stay (Grama Vastavya) programme embarked on by the association is an inspiration to people representatives and government. It has given a model with unique ‘Brand Mangaluru’. During Corona pandemic journalists have risked their lives.’
Kamath also distributed the kits given by the labor department during the programme.
The senior journalist Manohar Prasad presided the convention.
Addressing the gathering, city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, ‘The pride of Kannada land, language, water should never get diminished. The development of all these things are the responsibility of all of us.’ He also sang the song ‘Sirigandada Gelge’ and wished the programme all the best.
Sadhane, a special souvenir, which involves the three years of developments undertaken by the district journalists’ association was released by president of International Bunts’ Federation, Aikala Harish Shetty.
Photo exhibition of Manohar Prasad was released by Ganesh Rao, president of Karavali Group of Educational Institutions.
KEONICS president Harikrishna Bantwal distributed books to students of Madappady School.
Mangaluru mayor Premananda Shetty distributed uniforms to students of Kutloor School.
Mangaluru Patrika Bhavan former president Anand Shetty, present president Ramakrishna R, Mangaluru Press Club president Annu Mangaluru and general secretary Mohammed Arif Padubidri were present on the dais.
Karnataka state executive committee of working journalists’ president Bala Jagannath Shetty welcomed the gathering.
Srinivas Nayak Indaje, president of the Association delivered the preliminary address. Ibrahim Adkastala, general secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was compered by former president of the Association P B Harish Rai.
Before beginning the programme the guests were ushered into the auditorium in palanquin that was filled with dailies, magazines that are published from the district of Dakshina Kannada.
