Mangaluru, 20 Jan 2021: The blood donor has benefit of reducing cholesterol level in blood and enables to produce new cells. It would improve functioning of heart and enhances immunity, said Wenlock Hospital surgeon and blood bank officer Dr Sharat Kumar Rao J.
Dr Sharat was speaking after inaugurating blood camp that was organized by Mangalore University NSS and University College at Ravindra Kala Bhavan, here on Tuesday January 19. It was held in collaboration with Lions Club Highland.
One can save four lives with one’s blood. Nonetheless, the children suffering from thalassemia need frequent blood infusion, added Dr Sharat.
Nagesh Kumar, regional advisor of Lions Club that has created a record by organizing 217 blood camps said the blood donation is a noble deed that has no limitations of faith and castes.
The University NSS coordinator Dr Nagaratna K A said NSS motto of social service, unity and common good lies in blood donation.
The College principal Dr A Harish expressed happiness over the students who have just returned to college after Covid-19 imposed vacation for taking keen interest in blood camp.
Lions Club Highland president K S Ranjan delivered the vote of thanks.
NCC naval officer Dr Yatish Kumar, NSS officers Dr Gayatri and Dr Suresh, University College youth Indian Red Cross Society coordinator Dr Kumaraswamy and others were present.
Nearly 50 people voluntarily donated their blood on the occasion.
