Mumbai, 05 Sep 2020: The internationally-renowned artist sixty-three-year-old Divakar Rama Shetty, native of Moodanidamboor in Udupi district of Karnataka passed away at his residence, Charkop, Kandivali (West), here on August 29, owing to brief illness.
He was well known as Metal Man of India, because of his versatility in creating masterpieces in both wood and metals that ranges from deities, horses, birds etc. He was engaged in research on wooden art in recent years.
Divakar arrived in Mumbai in 1980 and initially worked in bank later took up art as fulltime profession. He was gifted artist who could carve out masterpieces out of his imagination.
Karnataka Sangh Mumbai® conferred Sadhana Shikara Prasasti to Divkar in 2015 and Mumbai University Kannada department conferred Gold Medal recently.
He is survived by his wife and two sons. Mumbai University head of department of Kannada Dr G N Upadhya, Dr Poornima S Shetty, veteran theater artiste Mohn Marnad, office bearers of Karnataka Sangh Mumbai, Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangh Maharashtra joint secretary Jayaram N Shetty and others expressed their condolences on the demise of Divakar.
