Udupi, 20 June 2011: Sandhya gets average 120 marks in her class exams in Kannada, also gets 120 marks in preparatory exams and had high expectations of getting above 120 in final exams, but when the results were declared she gets only 66 marks! This is the sad story of Sandhya G.S. an bright student of Kota Viveka Girls High School of Udupi District. In April 2010-11 SSLC exams she passed in first class with total 506 (80.96%) marks, securing 79 in English, 99 in Maths, 96 in Science, 90 in Hindi, 82 in Social Science, but in Kannada only 66!, actually not 66 but 123!

If it was only so much, she could have concluded ok she had written only just. But, when it was first evaluated she was given 123 marks in Kannada. But there is a rule that if the marks are more than 120 then it has to be re evaluated by another evaluator. And the another evaluator has given zeros to the marks previously given 2, 3, 4 by correcting it! Besides that the re evaluator has written a comment that there has been changes made in the writings!

Therefore the 123 marks given by the first evaluator has been dropped down to 66 in the hands of the second evaluator! Do we call this an irresponsibility or what else shall we call this? If any corrections are made then it is considered as copied it seems. But Sandhya had re written her own writing only when the pen did not write properly. For this the re evaluator has given zero at those answers.

But here it is clear that Sandhya had injustice. Because she had scored in the 5 class exams 118, 119, 120, 110 and 123 respectively and before the SSLC exams in the state level preparatory exams she has scored 120.5. So nobody can believe that she has scored 66 marks in final SSLC exams.

Seeing Sandhya with tears who was expecting above 120 marks, her father G. Shivananda requested for the copy of the answer paper by paying the necessary fee on 16th May. But even here the examination board has shown irresponsibility. The answer paper should have been received within 10 days but did not receive it even after a month, so he sent a reminder on 15th June and finally on 18th June he received the answer paper.

Sandhya is the daughter of the couple G. Shivananda (who is the Chande player in Saligrama Mela) and Surekha. She is an blossoming achiever even in the poverty. She depends on the scholarship and ambitious to study C.A. and currently joined Viveka Pre University College in Commerce section. An NRI had promised to bear the complete expenses if she scores above 90% marks.

If Sandhya had received the earlier given 123 marks in Kannada she would have got average 91% marks. But since Sandhya is now given 66 marks in Kannada she gets 80.96% marks only. With this she will not be able to get the help of the NRI and also a couple of other scholarships. She is suffering the punishment for the mistake she has not committed.

Besides this she has been deprived the result of her hard work of the studies day and night by deducting her 67 marks. The local education Officers have expressed their helplessness in this matter. Now Shivananda is again sending his request for the re evaluation of the paper. Whatever it is, shouldn’t this irresponsibility be punished?
