Puttur, 27 Feb: The NCC Senior Division and Senior Wing Army of St Philomena College, here organized National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day at their college quadrangle on Tuesday, February 25.
The president of Puttur Bar Association Manohar K V participated as the chief guest. He said, ‘NCC inculcates the core values like discipline, unity, confidence and patriotism.’
The campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the guest of honour. He said, ‘The NCC unit of our college has made tremendous achievement during this academic year. It is matter of great pride for all of us.’
The principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo complimented the NCC Officer and 2 cadets of the College for participating in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi on January 26.
The principal Prof Leo Noronha delivered presidential address. He said, ‘Appreciation does not come so easily. Hard work and commitments are the means of any achievement. It is not the material that matters, but it is the disciplined men and women who wear uniform really matter.’
On this occasion, Associate NCC Officer, Lt Johnson David Sequeira was felicitated for being the Contingent Officer of Karnataka and Goa Directorate to train the cadets in New Delhi.
Senior Under Officer Chethan P of first year BCA was felicitated for participating in the Flag Area and Prime Minister’s Rally.
Junior Under Officer Mahalasa Pai of first year BCom was felicitated for participating in cultural event which was presented on the occasion of VIP’s visit in New Delhi.
Sergeant Karthik K R of first year BCA was felicitated for participating in Pre Republic Day Camps held at Bangalore. The NCC cadets of the college, who have excelled in various camps and competitions, were also honored.
SUO Rachana N R welcomed the gathering. The faculty Tejaswi Bhat presented the achievements of the NCC Officer. Sergeant Sridevi K proposed the vote of thanks. The faculty Nancy Lavina Pinto compered the programme.
Under the guidance of Prashanth Rai, convener of Yakshakala Kendra and Performing Arts Association, the students presented a variety of cultural programmes.
