Karkala, 15 Nov 2019: Stree Sanghattan Units of Miyar, Ajekar and Kera Units of Karkala Deanery that included in Arpana Mahila Okkuta were victorious in the skit competition held on Friday, 15 November 2019 at Karkala Town Parish Hall. While Miyar Unit secured first position, Ajekar Unit and Kera Unit were second and third respectively. Dr. Eugene DSouza of Moodubelle, Mrs. Vanitha Fernandes of Thottam and Mrs. Marina Lewis of Milagres-Kallianpur were the judges of the competition. The theme of the skits was “Positive change among women and from women in the near future”.
Earlier, following the prayer service, the competition was inaugurated by Presidents of all the nine parish units of Stree Sanghattan in a unique way at 10.30 am. The nine parishes included in the Deanery are: Attur-Karkala, Karkala Town, Miyar, Kera, Hirgan, Ajekar, Kanajar, Parappady and Nakre.
Fr. Jason D’Souza, Assistant Parish priest of Miyar and Spiritual Director of Karkala Deanery Stree Sanghattan read the rules and regulations of the competition.
The three judges of the competition-Dr. Eugene D’Souza, Mrs. Vanitha Fernandes and Mrs. Marina Lewis were introduced to the audience and competitors.
Eight out of nine parish units presented their skits extending to 10 minutes each making attempts to convey the message as per the theme of the competition.
The valedictory function was held at 12.45 pm. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Parish Priest of Christ the King Church-Karkala Town and Dean of Karkala Deanery presided over the valedictory function. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Fr. Jason D’Souza, Mrs. Carol Fernandes (Miyar) - President of Karkala Deanery Stree Sanghattan, Mrs. Shanti D’Almeida (Karkala Town) - Secretary, Mrs. Valeria Cutinha (Hirgan) -Immediate Past President of Karkla Deanery Stree Sanghattan, Mrs. Vanitha Fernandes and Mrs. Marina Lewis.
Following the welcome by Mrs. Carol Fernandes, Mrs. Marina Lewis, one of the judges gave her review about the competition and complimented all the participants for their efforts in presenting the skits adhering to the main theme of the competition.
Fr. Jason D’Souza in his address said that each and every individual has talents and such talents can be exhibited only when they are given opportunities. He appreciated the efforts of all the participants in putting forward their talents through the skits.
The sponsors of the event were honoured by Fr. Joswey Fernandes by offering them flowers.
In his message, Fr. Joswey Fernandes appreciated the contribution of Fr. Reginald Pinto-Director of Sampada in organizing the women of the Udupi Diocese and adopting a number of programmes to empower them and manifest their various talents. He also lauded the efforts of Fr. Jason D’Souza, Spiritual Director of Stree Sanghattan of Karkala Deanery in encouraging them to organize such competitions in which the women of the Deanery could develop their talents.
Fr. Joswey Fernandes distributed prizes to the winners. Consolation prizes were given away to all the participants in the competition to encourage them and appreciate their participation.
Fr. Paul Rego-Parish Priest of Miyar, Fr. Unil D’Silva-Parish Priest of Ajekar, Fr. Gerald D’Mello-Parish Priest of Parappady, Sr. Priya Quadros-Animator of Stree Sanghattan and Stany Fernandes-Coordinator of Sampada were present for the competition.
Mrs. Shanti D’Almeida proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Jacintha D’Silva of Karkala Town Parish compeered the programme.
