Mangaluru, 19 Sep: Vishwakarma community contributed immensely for sculpture and art in our country, said Karnataka minister for ports, fisheries and hinterland transport Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Srinivas was speaking after inaugurating Vishwakarma Jayanti that was jointly organized by DK district administration, ZP, Kannada and culture department at Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka temple, here on Tuesday, September 17.
He also said, ‘Vishwakarma Jayanti celebration aims at sensitizing the community. The community should take pride in their profession and pass on their skills to their gen-next. The community is known for discipline, perseverance and social commitment.
Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamat said, ‘The temples and sculptures in our country are created by skilled workmen of Vishwakarma community. The historical temples in Belur, Halebeedu and Hampi are the testimonies of their craftsmanship,’ he said.

Mangaluru taluk panchayat president Mohammed Monu, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Mangaluru taluk Tahsildar Guruprasad, Sri Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka temple trustee K Keshav Acharya, Sundar Acharya Belvai and Lokesh Acharya Bejai were present at the dais.
Kannada and culture department assistant director Rajesh G welcomed the gathering.
