Udupi/M’Belle, 09 Jul: St. Lawrence Composite PU College along with Lions Club, Moodubelle observed ‘Vanamahotsava’ on Tuesday, 09 July 2019 at 2.30 pm. On this occasion various association of St. Lawrence PU College were formally inaugurated.
The programme of inauguration of associations and ‘Vanamahotsava’ was held in St. Lawrence PU College Hall which was presided over by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Ln. N.M. Hegde,mjf, First Vice Governor of Lions District 317C was the chief guest. Ln. Jerald Fernandes, Region Chairman was the guest of honour. Devaraya Shanbagh-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School were also on the dais.
Following the prayer song, students representing different associations presented themselves in the dance form.
Fr. Clement Mascarenhas alsong with the dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated various associations of the PU College by lighting the lamp.
Chief guest Ln. N.M. Hegde inaugurated the ‘Vanamahotsava’ by watering a plant in the pot.
Viona Fernandes of First Year PU Commerce in her brief speech highlighted the importance and significance of ‘Vanamahotsava’.
Names of the members of the PU College Cabinet were read by Larsen Edward D’Souza and Principal Devraya Shanbagh administered the oath of office to the student members.
In his address, Ln. N.M. Hegde stressed on the importance of students’ parliament and associations in developing leadership qualities among the students. He also pointed out the dangers of environmental degradation and the need to plant more and more trees to save the nature for the future generations.
Fr. Clement Mascarenhas in his message complimented the students for organizing the programme of both inauguration of associations and ‘Vanamahotsava’. He made an appeal to the students to plant at least one sapling and see it grow.
Principal Devaraya Shanbagh welcomed the guests, Suraj Nayak-SPL proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Sudha Bhat compeered the programme.
Soon after the stage programme Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Ln. N.M. Hegde, Ln. Jerald Fernandes distributed saplings to the representatives of Lions Club and each standard of the PU College and high school.

After the stage programme, saplings were jointly planted in the premises of St. Lawrence Composite PU College by the Lions Club members as well the members of the Environmental Association of the composite PU College.
