Mangaluru, May 28: DK district Deputy Commissioner Sasikant Sentil issued orders to ban fishing with effect from June 1 to July 31, under Karnataka Coastal Fisheries (Control) Act of 1986.
Accordingly, vessels fitted with engines with capacity of 10 HP and above will be banned to fish in coastal waters. Meanwhile, the fishing trawlers and country boats that are fitted with less than 10 HP engines will be allowed for fishing during the fisheries ban of 61 days.
The fisheries boats and fishermen who violate the ban will be fined according to the said Act, besides they would be ineligible for subsidy for their fisheries boats for one year.
The deputy director of fisheries in a communiqué urged the fishermen to strictly follow the orders for sustaining fisheries stock.
