Udupi/M’Belle, 6 Apr: “Zuz”-Battle Between Death and Resurrection, written by Fr. Alwyn Serrao, Principal of Padua College, Mangaluru and directed by Christopher D’Souza of Padua Rang Adhyayan Kendr was presented at the St. Lawrence Community hall, Moodubelle on Saturday, 6 April 2019. This serious play extending to one and a half hour in single act was enacted by Calvin Fernandes as Dr. Luciano and his alter-ego Christopher D’Souza.
The play revolves around the struggle of Dr. Luciano to come to terms with the reality of life and his loss of faith and hope following the untimely death of his lover. The entire play is a dialogue in the form of debate between Dr. Luciano and his alter ego on the mystery of death and resurrection of Jesus.
With superb direction and acting the entire play was griping and held the audience spellbound. The stage setting, light and sound arrangements were excellent.
Prior to the presentation of the play, the devotional CD “Daivik Sobhai” composed and directed by Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Uudpi and Dean of Udupi Varado and Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenahs-Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church was released by Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa-Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva and Dean of Shirva Varado. The programme was attended by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Rev. Fr. Roman Mascarenahs-Rector of Diocesan Minor Seminary and Rev. Fr. Alexander Lewis, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs.Neeta Rebello-wife of Cajetan Dias, Mrs. Latha D’Mello-Secretary and singers from Moodubelle Parish and Kuntalnagar Parish.
In his introductory remarks, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas narrated the efforts that made it possible to bring out the CD containing devotional hymns.
Speaking on this occasion, Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa compared Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca and Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas to the famous Hindi Film Music Composers, Laxmikant Pyarelal. Fr. Valerain and Fr. Clement have jointly produced 28 CDs out which four were in Kannada language, 7 in Hindi and remaining in Konkani. Altogether among them they have produced 40 CDs which is a record in itself. Harmonization and orchestration for the CD “Daivik Sobhai” was done by the famous musician Cajetan Dias. The CD comprises of 11 hymns and were sung by the singers from Moodubelle and Kuntalnagar.
