Udupi, 15 Dec: Lions Club, Moodubelle celebrated Christmas and Charter Nite on Saturday, 15 December 2018 along with the official visit of First Vice District Governor (VDG) of Lions District 317C, Ln. V.G. Shetty, pmjf who was the chief guest of the function.
As part of the Christmas celebration, the Leo members presented Christmas Carols from 7.15 pm to 7.30 pm.
The stage programme commenced at 7.30 pm. The programme was presided over by Ln. Ivan D’Almeida-President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle. Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr. Clement Mascarenahs-Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Ln. V.G. Shetty, Ln. Sashikumar Shetty-Region Chairman of Region II. Ln. Gerald Fernandes-Chairman of Zone I, Region II, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza-Past District Governor (PDG), Ln. Devdas Hebbar, Ln. Elias D’Souza-District Coordinator of Christmas Celebration, Ln. Joseph Martis-Secretary, Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Rajendra Shetty-Treasurer and Leo Sharlin D’Almeida-President of Leo Club, Moodubelle.
Following the welcome address by Ln. Ivan D’Almeida, the Christmas Cake was cut as part of the Christmas celebration.
Delivering the Christmas message. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that God is love and the Son of God, Jesus Christ was born on the Christmas day to love and serve humanity. He gave the message of loving and serving humanity, the work that is being carried on by Lions Clubs throughout the world.
The Charter Nite was observed by lighting the lamp and showering flowers on the frame containing the names of the Charter Members by the dignitaries on the dais including two Charter Members-Ln. Devdas Hebbar and Ln. Cyril D’Souza.
Speaking on this occasion, Ln. Devdas Hebbar briefly narrated the history and service activities of the Lions Club of Moodubelle since its inception in 1995. He said that the foundation of the Lions Club of Moodubelle laid by the Charter President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino has grown through the years. With its own building, Lions Seva Bhavan constructed on the land donated by Ln. Wilfred D’Souza, during the last 23 years, Lions Club of Moodubelle has served the village community through various health camps, environmental awareness programmes, felicitating meritorious students, supporting educational activities, providing home for homeless and many other useful activities.
Ln. Gerald Fernandes introduced the chief guest of the day, Ln. V.G. Shetty.
In his message, Ln. V.G. Shetty said that he was pleased to be part of two birthdays-firstly, the birthday celebration of Jesus Christ thorough the Christmas celebration and secondly, the birthday of the Lions Club of Moodubelle through the observation of the Charter Nite. Speaking about the opportunities that an individual can have in his or her life life, Ln. V.G. Shetty said, “Life is not to find meaning, but to create meaning”. He appreciated the service rendered by the Lions Club of Moodubelle during the past 23 years as narrated by Ln. Devdas Hebbar. Referring to the message of Christmas, Ln. V.G. Shetty said that Jesus Christ taught the virtues of love and service to humanity and the message of Jesus Christ is everlasting and the Lions Club International is based on this message.
On this occasion Ln. V.G. Shetty was honoured by offering him shawl, garland and memento. He accepted the honour reluctantly and later expressed his opinion against such honour.
Leo Sharlin D’Almeida who had secured second place in the State Level Elocution Competition held at Bangalore recently was felicitated. She expressed her gratitude and said that she got an opportunity to interact with youth coming from different districts of Karnataka State.
Ln. Elias D’Souza, District Coordinator of the Christmas Celebration narrated the significance and meaning of Christmas.
Ln. Sashikumar Shetty and Ln. Wilfred D’Souza also conveyed their Christmas messages.
Ln. Rajendra Shetty proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Aswita Shalet D’Souza compeered the programme.
The Lions Seva Bhavan was illuminated with colourful lights as part of the Christmas and Charter Nite Celebration. Christmas caps and Santa Clauses enhanced teh Christmas and Charter Nite Celebrations.
