Mangaluru, 22 Jun 2018: Nitte (Deemed to be University) started the Centre for Stem Cell Research & Regenerative Medicine in 2013. The centre has established research collaborations with Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom and The Catholic University of Korea, Republic of Korea. The centre is currently working on stem cell research and potential use of autologous transplantation of stem cells, particularly in Orthopedics, Dermatology, ENT and Dentistry. This is also one among a few authorized centres in the country for processing and storage of umbilical cord blood stem cells.
Adding to this, the stem cell centre has received the latest innovative ‘Cell Technology for Cartilage and Bone Regeneration’ developed by Shetty - Kim Research Foundation (SKRF), United Kingdom. This technology will facilitate in reducing some of the human suffering through regenerative orthopedics.
In a recently held ceremony, Prof Dr A Ananthram Shetty, director of Shetty-Kim Research Foundation (SKRF) and Chair of Orthopedics and director of Research from Canterbury Christ Church University Kent, United Kingdom transferred this latest innovative technology to N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.
On this occasion of technology transfer, Prof Dr M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-chancellor, Nitte (DU), Prof Dr B Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-chancellor, Nitte (DU), and Prof Dr K Jayaprakash Shetty, Vice-Dean, KSHEMA, Dr A Veena Shetty and Dr B Mohana Kumar, Faculty of stem cell centre were also present.
