Karkala, 24 Jan 2018: On the fourth day of the annual feast of St. Lawrence Basilica, Attur-Karkala on Wednesday, 24 January 2018, Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore concelebrated the solemn fest mass at 10.30 am and preached the homily with the theme of “Let us support those institutions that serve the poor and needy".
The Bishop said, “There are many institutions and persons who have dedicated themselves in the service of the poor and needy. By joining hands with them we can contribute considerably in the upliftment of these people”.
There were 11 holy masses on the fourth day of the annual feast at St. Lawrence Basilica out of which 3 masses were in Kannada language. Msgr. Felix Noronha, Vicar General of Shivmogga Diocese offered the evening mass.
The main feast mass in the morning at 10.30 am was concelebrated by Bishop Aloysius P. D’Souza along with Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo, Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Dean of Karkala Varado, Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Director of St. Lawrence Basilica, Attur-Karkala and Rev. Fr. Jensil Alva, Assistant Parish Priest of the Basilica.
A large number of devotees of St. Lawrence from different parts of coastal Karnataka as well as from different parts of Karnataka attended the main feast mass.
On Thursday, 25 January 2018 there will be 10 masses out of which 7 will be in Konkani language(6.30am, 10am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm and 9.30 pm) and 3 in Kannada(8am, 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm.
The main feast mass in honour of Our Lady of Guide will be concelebrated by Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo at 10 am.
On Wednesday, 24 January 2018, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo along with Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Director of St. Lawrence Basilica felicitated dignitaries. The chief among them weree: B. Ramanath Rai, In charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada District and K. Annamalia, Superintendent of Police Chikkamagalur.
