Udupi: Training Camp in poetry and writing articles and stories held at Moodubelle

Udupi, 13 Sep 2015: For the first time, a training camp in writing poetry, articles and stories was held for the youth and children under the auspices of the parish magazine “Savaad” on Sunday, 13 September 2015 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in St. Lawrence Parish Hall, Moodubelle. The camp was sponsored by the renowned poet, Sannu Monis.

 

Following the welcome address by Mrs. Meera Lobo-Editor of “Suvaad”, Sannu Monis briefly explained the purpose and significance of the training camp. Thereafter, the camp was inaugurated by Rev Fr. Clement Mascarenahs, Parish Priest of Moodubelle by lighting the lamps bordering the flower petals spread on the  table along with other dignitaries on the dais-Alphonse Alva and Mrs. Latha D’Mello-Vice President and Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mrs Meera Lobo-Editor of “Suvaad”, Sannu Monis and Nevile D’Souza-President of ICYM.

 

In his message, Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenahs said that in order to be happy and contented in life one should have one or two hobbies. He narrated his own experience and mentioned that he had the gift of singing which he used as a young boy in singing hymns  during the Sunday masses. After joining Seminary, he developed the hobby of music and later to compose hymns and songs. Lately, he even tried his hand even in writing poetry and recited one of his poems “Kutam” that was published in one of the recent issues of the Diocesan Fortnightly “Uzwaad”.

 

Alphonse Alva appreciated the efforts of "Suvaad" editorial comittee and Sannu Monis in organizing the camp for training the young people in writing poems and wished them well.

 

 

The morning session of the  camp was conducted by Sannu Monis and Alwyn Danti from Pernal. Sannu Monis through power point presentation explained the meaning, inspiration and writing of poetry. He said that any social, environmental, emotional and sentimental issue or circumstances can be used to produce poetry.

 

Alwyn Danti conducted the session on the art of writing articles, essays and stories. He said that writing poetry may not be easy for many, however, through practice one would be able to write articles, essays and stories. Through various  examples, Alwyn Danti explained how one can be effective in the art  of writing.

 

The post-lunch session was devoted for recitation of poems in the form of ‘Kavighshti’. Four young poets from Moodubelle-Glen Rebello, Joy Fernandes, Inesh D’Souza and Ozwald D’Souza Kanajar recited their poems.

 

The final session was poetry recitation by well known poets Namely:  Wilson Kateel, Alphonse Mendonsa, Alwyn Danti, Joel Attur, Catherine Rodrigues, Joseph Maris (poem by Bottam Bollye), Naveen Periera, Claudy Brahmavar, Sannu Monis, Jossy Pinto Kinnigoli, Joyer Kinnigoli and Melwyn Kollalgiri.

 

Melwyn Kollalgiri presided over the poetry session.

 

Sannu Monis thanked all the participants and supporters.

 

 

Fr. Stephan Pereira, Editor of ‘Namon Ballok’ spoke on the occasion and he promised to give chance to new poets from Moodubelle in ’Namon Ballok’.  He also made an appeal to young and upcoming poets to participate in literary competition that would be organized in the near future.

 

Mrs. Meera Lobo, editor of ‘Suvaad’ proposed the vote of thanks.
