Mangaluru, 16 Mar 2015: The fifth birth centenary of St Theresa of Avila (patroness of Carmelite religious order and the doctor of the church) was celebrated at Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte, here on Sunday March 15 at 4.00pm.
The celebration of the birth centenary marked with Eucharistic Celebration by Episcopal vicar of the religious Fr Pius James D’Souza, along with St Joseph’s Monastery superior Fr Joe Tauro, counselor Fr Sylvester, Infant Jesus Shrine director Fr Elias D’Souza, Fr Steven Pereira, Fr Barnabas Monis, Fr Deep Fernandes, Fr Walter D’Souza, Infant Mary’s parish priest Fr Melyn D’Cunha, Mangaluru diocesan vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu.
Fr Gregory D’Souza delivered the homily on the virtues of St Theresa of Avila who brought sanctity to religious life when the religious were at cross roads.
After the holy Eucharistic the wonderful stage performances and the other cultural events based on the message and life of St Teresa Of Jesus were performed by various groups, propagating the love and oneness in God and various simple means to achieve them.
The newly-elected mayor Jacinta Alfred in her message to the gathering, called everyone to walk in the footsteps of St Theresa of Avila and Monsignor Dennis Moras Prabhu called each one to the sainthood, in spite of chaotic life on earth.
