Mangaluru, 26 Jan 2015: At the joint auspicious of DK district administration, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and city traffic police, in collaboration with Center for Health and Development (CHD) and RevLimiterz and IDEA, New Delhi observed the 26th National Road Safety Week here on Sunday January 25.
N Vishnuwardhan, DCP, Crime and Traffic, Mangaluru was the chief guest of the occasion.
RJ Errol of 92.7 BIG FM was the guest of honour.
Introducing the importance of the day, Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO, Center for Health and Development, welcomed the gathering of bikers and spoke about the importance of road safety and sensitized the bikers about road accidents. He appealed to the gathering to make Mangaluru city an accident free city which CHD is working for.
ARTO, G S Hegde highlighted the theme for 2015, ‘Road safety is not just a slogan, it is a way of life. He said that all two wheeler riders should commit to save driving and control their speed. Speeding on roads is the leading cause of death often amongst youngsters.’
N Vishnuwardhan flagged-off the rally for 2015 at Nehru Maidan and the rally followed a lane discipline moving from Balmatta, to Dr B R Ambedkar roundabout to St Agnes, Kadri, Bunts Hostel to Lalbaugh. During the rally great care was taken to maintain a speed limit less than 20 kilometres per hour, to promote and encourage slow driving and discourage speeding. Helmets were compulsorily worn.
Earlier, RJ Errol of 92.7 Big FM, administered a road safety pledge and wished the gathering a safe driving movement.
At the end of the rally, Guru Kamath, Mangaluru city traffic police, briefed about road accidents happening in Mangaluru and also took questions from the young audience related to road safety laws.
RevLimiterZ and IDEA, New Delhi were the associate partners in the event. 92.7 Big FM was the official radio partners for the event. Vote of thanks was delivered by ARTO, G S Hegde.
