Aslam missing for four years reunited with the family by the ‘Home of Hope’

Shankerpura, 2 October 2010:  A resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Aslam who had been missing from his home due to mental illness was reunited with his family after being given shelter and treatment in the ‘Home of Hope’ at Shankerpura.

Aslam, suffering from mental illness went missing from his home nearly four years ago. Eventually Aslam landed in Mangalore from where he was brought to the ‘Home of Hope’ at Shankerpura one year back and  was given shelter and was treated for his mental illness under the supervision of the Pastor Sunil John D’Souza. Aslam, who was not in a position to speak any word, gradually recovered due to the care and treatment given in the ‘Home of Hope’.

 

 

Being recovered fully from mental illness,  two months back Aslam expressed his desire to go back to his family in Ghorakpur. On the basis of the information provided by Aslam, Pastor Sunil John D’Souza contacted Aslam’s parents and also sent them Aslam’s picture. Recognising their son, Aslam’s parents expressed their desire to take their son back to Ghorakpur.

 

On Thursday, 30th September 2010, Aslam’ uncle, Nabirulla Ansari along with his friend Jayasharma came to the ‘Home of Hope’ at Shankerpura following the direction given by Pastor Sunil. Aslam’s uncle was surprised to see the pysical and mental  improvement of his nephew and greatly appreciated the treatment given to him by the ‘Home of Hope’ and thanked Pastor Suni and the volunteers for giving shelter and treatment  to Aslam since one year.  Later, Nabirulla Ansari along with Aslam returnedd to their hometown, Gorakhpur. 

 

 

According to the information provided by Nabirulla Ansari, Aslam who was studying in Fathe Memorial School in SSLC class became a victim of mental illness following failure of a love affair. He was taken to Nasik in Maharashtra and was given treatment in a Government Hospital for six months and was taken back to Gorakhpur. However, Aslam went missing from home four years ago. He had boarded a train at Gorakhpur and alighted only in Mangalore. One year back he was brought to the ‘Home of Hope’ where he  completely  recovered. Aslam has expressed his desire to continue his studies after returning home.

 

Around 150 mentally ill persons-men as well as women are being given shelter and treated at the ‘Home of Hope’. So far around 60 destitue have been reunited with their families after their recovery. There are still 20 inmates who have expressed their desire to go back to their homes. However, due to lack of proper address they are still in the ‘Home of Hope’. The inmates are from various regions of India such as Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, kerala, Tamilnadu, Punjab and Gujarat.
