Mangalore: DKMUL Sets Rs 27 per Liter as minimum rate for dairy farmers w e f Feb 21

Mangalore, 20 Feb 2014: Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers Union (DKMUL) has 1,12,000 members, out of which 51,000 are active who supply 2,60,000 liters milk daily through 652 co-operative societies in the undivided Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. Although DKMUL is the thirteenth milk union and youngest in Karnataka, its at the forefront in maintaining quality of milk procured and processed for marketing ‘Nandini’ branded milk and related products. It has daily requirement of 3,60,000 liter, while the shortfall is met by sourcing from other Milk Producers Union. There has been 13 percent to 15 percent increase in daily requirement over the years and there are plans under way to reach self sufficiency in procurement from already established co-operative societies in a few years, said DKMUL chairman and KMF director Raviraj Hegde.
Addressing the media persons at the press meet held at DKMUL headquarter at Kulshekar, here on Thursday February 20, Raviraj Hegde said DKMUL with its social commitment has been striving to improve the living standards of thousands of dairy farmers, hiked the buying rate to Rs 25 per liter, added onto that is Rs 2 per liter as support price and net Rs 27. It was decided during the Board of Directors meeting held here on Wednesday February 19 and will come into effect from Friday February 21. It would be highest in the entire state, said Raviraj Hegde.
Raviraj hedge further said that a mega convention of ‘Nandini’ milk producers union will be held at Nice grounds, opposite of International Expo, Bangalore on Saturday February 22. Over 3 lac dairy farmers from all over Karnataka are likely to attend the convention. The key objective of convention will be to create awareness among diary farmers on foot and mouth disease on livestock. CM Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the convention. The animal husbandry, law and parliamentary affairs minister T B Jayachandra will distribute compensation cheques to the owners of cows that perished due to the break up of foot and mouth disease recently, added Raviraj Hegde.
Raviraj Hegde added that 1,500 dairy farmers from undivided DK district will attend the convention at the cost of DKMUL.
DKMUL managing director Dr Satyanarayana said that as per the veterinary department 8 to 10 cases of foot and mouth were detected in the entire undivided DK district, while the animal husbandry department collaborated by DKMUL will undertake administering of pulse to all livestock in the whole of undivided DK district, said Dr Satyanarayan.
Raviraj Hegde briefed on the recent launch of ‘Nandini’ branded cashew burfi in 100 grams and 250 grams pack, while it has introduced scratch and win coupons in each pack. Over 3,500 consumers will have an opportunity to win gold/silver coins worth Rs 3.5 lac. The offer closes on Monday May 5, said Raviraj Hegde.
Raviraj Hegde, S Sitaram Rai and Dr Satyanarayana presented 10 gram silver coin to the first scratch and win winner – Hilda Marriot D’Souza (her husband accepted in her absence) on the occasion.
DKMUL former chairman and director Savanoor Sitaram Rai, directors Monappa Shetty Yekkar and Vijayalaxmi B Poojary were present on the occasion.
