Mangalore, 5 Aug 2013: The diocesan priests including senior clergies celebrated the feast of patron St John Mary Vianney at Vianney Home, Kankanady, here on Sunday August 4.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Father Muller Charitable Institutions director Fr Patrick Rodrigues and administrator and Vianney Home guardian Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa celebrated the Thanksgiving Holy Mass, along with several clergies at the chapel in Vianney Home, here on Sunday at 11.00am.

Fr John Noronha, one amongst the inmates of Vianney Home delivered the introductory on the services offered to the elderly priests at Vianney Home and welcomed the congregation.

Bishop Dr Aloysius in his homily, said that the worldly riches will not get them eternal life, citing examples of Greek shipping tycoon, the late Alexander Onassis (64) who despite his riches, at his death bed said, ‘I am richest person in the world, but I die miserable death.’  Alexander the Great, Greek conqueror also pondered over the futility of all those mighty wars that was fought by his army for over decades in capturing large territories, when he died in the sands of Rajastan at his young age.  He further said, ‘We are custodians of riches of this world, the peace and happiness will dwell upon us by sharing with less fortunate.  Give and thou shall be given unto you,’ said Bishop Dr Aloysius.

Bishop Dr Aloysius honored Lancy Constructions proprietor Lancy Mascarenhas for being the sponsor of the feast.

A brief stage programme held after the Thanksgiving Mass.

Bishop Dr Aloysius shared his childhood memories that his parish priest ninety-five-year-old Fr Jose Menezes, now lives in Vianney Home administered him Holy Communion when he was just 6 years old because he knew the doctrine by heart. He also urged the elderly clergies living in Vianney Home and senior priests’ home in St Anthony’s Ashram, Jeppu, not to be discouraged over failing health, rather seek spiritual help and persevere the trials and tribulations for eternal glory.

Fr Roshan compered the programme.  Fr Rudolph proposed vote of thanks.

Over 100 people, clergies and religious nuns were present on the occasion and shared the fellowship meal on the occasion.
