Moodubelle: School Government and Parliament inaugurated in Higher Primary School

Moodubelle, 1 July 2010:  As part of the co-curricular activities, the school government and parliament were inaugurated in the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle on Thursday, 1st July 2010 at 3 pm.  Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium School was the chief guest.

Mr. Sylvester Mathais, senior teacher in the school and also the Director of students’ government and Parliament introduced the concept of the parliamentary system of government and explained how the student parliament and cabinet was formed. The Head Master of the school, Mr. Raphael Aranha acted as the Governor and appointed the senior most student, Keerthana Bhat as the interim Speaker who conducted the election of  the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Sharan Shetty and Shreya were elected as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively. Thereafter, Keerthan Bhat vacated her chair and made way to the new Speaker Sharan Shetty.

Mr. Raphael Aranha as  the Governor administered the oath of office, first to the student Prime Minister-Vinyas Pai, Deputy Prime Minister-Shrinidhi, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Ministers in charge of different departments and finally to the members of the students’ parliament.

The students’ government was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Fr. Lancy Saldanha, Mr. Raphael Aranha and the student PM and Deputy PM. In his address, Fr. Lancy Saldanha appreciated the concept of students’ parliament and government in the school and emphasised the fact that it is important to have all-round education than only bookish learning. He said that by such activities students can develop leadership qualities and can understand the functioning of democratic system of government.

In his inaugural message, Mr. Raphael Aranha as the Governor of the students’ government pointed out that this co-curricular activity has educative value as students are introduced to the democratic functioning. He hoped that the student Prime Minister and other Ministers would work democratically and carry on the responsibilities that have been assigned to them so that the school can function effectively. He further said that the parliament members should keep an eye on the working of each and every minister and ask questions during the next session of the parliament.

The student Prime Minister Vinyas Pai proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Sylvester Mathais  conducted the inaugural programme.

Actually this makes a good impact in the childrens mind.Appriociate the concept.If you teach the students about our parliamentary system they can forget,but if you started the same Implementation in day today Activities,childrens will never forget in thier life which will help a lot in thier future.I would like to Thank Raphael master for giving the chance to Explore my talent when i was DSPL SPL( student People leader)in my 6th 7th std.which helps me alot in my life.

Its a great activity which gives political awareness among young students.Congrats and all the best to yong school leaders. Dear Sir, thank you for conducting such useful activities in our kannada medium school.keep up the good work. It reminds me 14 yrs back I was the "MUKHKYA MANTRI" Of our school.

These children are our future. Some day may be some one from these children would make a good politician. But surely all of them can become good citizens of our country.
