Udupi: Manasa Rehab & Training Centre, Pamboor hosts district Special Children’s Sports Meet

Udupi, 04 Nov 2022: ‘Every special child has some hidden potentialities. We have to try bringing out the best in them. For Helen Keller, blindness was not a hindrance. Similarly every child can contribute to the society if opportunities are given,’ said Kurma Rao M, deputy commissioner of Udupi district.
Rao was speaking after inaugurating Udupi district Special Children’s Sports Meet organized by Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pamboor, near here in collaboration with department of Women and Child Development, department for empowerment of Differently-abled and Senior citizens, here recently.
It was held as a part of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre.
Commodore Jerome Castelino VSM, retired senior naval officer was the chief guest and urged the government agencies to support special children so that they are the resources of the society.
Veena Vivekananda of department of Women and Child Development, Ratna, welfare officer of department for empowerment of differently-abled and senior citizens were present as guests of honor.
Students of Mansa Pamboor welcomed the Deputy Commissioner with the music of the school band.
President of the Manasa Centre Henry Menezes welcomed the gathering. Principal Sr Ancillary Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Ravindra Shetty, Mary D Souza, vice president and president of Catholic Sabha, Elroy Kiran Crasto, the convener of Silver Jubilee Committee, Joseph Noronha, secretary, Valerian Fernandes, the treasurer, Dr Edward Lobo, Remedia D Souza, John Martis and other trustees were present.
During the valedictory function Rathan Shetty, president of Shiva gram panchayat and Gracy Cardoza, vice president were present as guests of honor.
The overall championship was bagged by Vijetha Special School, Karkala and Asha Nilaya Special School - Udupi were runners up.
The physical directors Joseph D Souza from St Lawrence P U College Moodbelle, Dominion Noronha from St John’s High School, Shankarpura and Suresh Devadiga from Sri Gurunarayana High School, Padubelle and MSW students form MAHE Manipal assisted in conducting the sports meet.
Teachers Prameela and Ashwini compered the programme. Dr Gerald Pinto, joint secretary of the Trust proposed the vote of thanks.
Two-hundred-fifty students from 12 special schools from Udupi district participated in the programme.
