Udupi, 04 Sep 2022: Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur – Santhekatte, Celebrate Teachers Day with all respects and honours to all the teachers of the parish community…

 

As the nation respectfully remember former President of India Dr S. Radha Krishnan, famed philosopher, a teacher on his birthday tomorrow i.e. 5th September, respectfully as Teachers Day, Sunday, the 4th September, 2022 has been specially chosen by the Pastoral Commission for Education of the parish in collaboration with the Catholic Sabah Unit of the Mount Rosary Church to recognise, honour and highlight the significance of teachers in our parish in particular and society in general.

 

Being the 6th day of Novena in honour of Mother Mary, in preparation of Monthi Feast, at 8.00 am the spacious Church almost full to its capacity to offer the Thanksgiving High Mass, celebrated by Vicar Rev. Dr Roque DSouza, who specially in his homily acknowledged the services of Teachers in moulding young minds and be inspired by Jesus Christ our supreme teacher. He also made a mention of St Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who too followed Him in every possible way.

 

 

Soon after the Holy Mass and Novena, all teachers were gathered in the adjacent Mini hall to have breakfast. During the followed formal felicitation programme at 9.20 am, after invoking Almighty Lords Blessings through a beautiful hymn led by Mrs Jovita Fernandes and the Choir team of the Church, the editor of the parish bulletin Rozaricho Gaanch Mrs Hilda Carnelio extended a warm and homely welcome to all teachers gathered and dignitaries present. The ICYM Members of the parish offered and greeted with fresh roses to all guests on the dais.

 

Coordinator of 20 Commissions of the Parish Mr Santhosh Carnelio in his introductory message, outlined the legacy of Dr Radha Krishnan and the spontaneous initiative of Catholic Sabah and Commission for Education and others to recognise, appreciate the role of teachers in each one’s life.

 

The well decorated portrait of former President was garlanded by Vicar Rev Dr Roque DSouza and other guests as a mark of respects to a great visionary and philosopher.

 

On this special occasion the retired teacher Mrs Jacintha Rodrigues was honoured with traditional shawl, fruit basket, memento and garlanded. Earlier Mr Archibald Furtado, Lecturer Milagres College Kallianpur gave a brief introduction. In her crispy reply to the felicitations she thanked all concerned for choosing her and wished all teachers gathered to be trend setters to identify the talents, traits and strengths and to convert the pupil in their custody to be extra ordinary…

 

All the teachers about 75 in the parish and who were present, about 45 of the were briefly introduced by Mrs Zeena DSouza, Joint Secretary CS – MRC & Mr Luke DSouza, former President CS – MRC. The parish Priest Rev Dr Roque DSouza presided over the function & the Asst parish priest Fr Rolwin Fernandes was Chief Guest greeted all of them with fresh roses as a mark of respect and in his message lauded the services of Teachers as a whole.

 

CYM members presented a melodious song to wish and thank the teaching community. Mr Tolbert DSouza, the Convenor of the Commission for Education – MRC refreshed the audience by presenting a crispy report on previous year’s activities.

 

 

In his presidential address, Rev Dr Roque DSouza who also served for 18 long years in training and teaching in the St Joseph’s Inter Diocesan Seminary, Mangalore, thrown light on the challenges of modern day teachers. ‘Along with knowledge based teaching’ he emphasised on ‘let your mission be imparting value based, ethical and socially responsible’ he stressed. He took the opportunity to felicitate all teachers for their yeomen service, on behalf of the entire parish community.

 

Among others, In charge of SRA Gorettee Convent superior Sr. Doreen Pinto, Secretary of Parish Pastoral council Mr Ronald Saldanha, Gurkars of various wards, representatives of pious organisations of the church, Education Ayog members, Catholic Sabah Office bearers and members were present in large number.

 

To conclude the well-arranged Teachers Day programme, President of Catholic Sabah, Mount Rosary Church (CS-MRC), Mrs Rosy Quadros proposed vote of thanks, while former President Mrs Jyothy Lewis meticulously handled the whole event as MC.
