75th Independence Day Celebrated at St. Lawrence Church and Lions Club, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 15 Aug 2022: 75th Independence Day was celebrated with great joy and pride in St. Lawrence Church and the Lions Club, Moodubelle on Monday, 15 August 2022. The flag hoisting ceremony was held after the solemn feast mass celebrating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven at 8.30 am.
Fr. George D’Souza, Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church hoisted the tricolor flag as the gathered parishioners sang the National Anthem saluting the flag. Charles Quadros-Secretary of the Parish pastoral Council delivered the Independence Day message in which he pointed out how the divided India was conquered by the British and established their rule exploiting the country for a long time. He also said that ultimately the freedom movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi achieved independence to India on 15 August 1947. India has made great progress since then. It is the duty of every Indian to safeguard the freedom of the nation.
Fr. Pradeep Cardoza-Assistant Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Fr. Baptist D’Souza (SVD) from Orissa, Gerald Fernandes-Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council and a large number of parishioners were present for the flag hoisting function.
Aidan Menezes-President of ICYM compered the programme.
Soon after the flag hoisting function, Vanamhotsava was observed by the ICYM and YCS Units of Moodubelle by planting different varieties of tree saplings at the edge of the church premises.
Lions Club, Moodubelle:
Flag hoisting function in the Lions Club, Moodubelle was held in the premises of the Lions Seva Bhavan on Monday, 15 August 2022 at 7 am. Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM), President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle hoisted the national flag as the members sang the National Anthem.
In his message, Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino said that with great difficulty that Indian freedom fighters achieved independence after a lot of sacrifice and sufferings. It is important that we must safeguard this independence at all costs. India is a nation comprising of many religions, languages and cultures, Hence, it is important we should respect each others’ religious beliefs and cultures. We should live in peace and harmony with each other so that the nation can make progress and emerge as a great nation in the world.
Ln. Devdas Hebbar-Secretary of the Lions Club, Moodubelle compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
