Velankanni Shrine of Kalmadi will be officially declared as Shrine of Udupi Diocese on August 15

Udupi, 04 Aug 2022: Stella Maris Church, the Shrine of Our Lady of Velankanni, Kalmadi will be declared as the official Shrine of Udupi diocese on August 15, 2022, said Very Rev Fr. Baptist Menezes, Parish Priest of Stella Maris Church, Kalmadi, Udupi.
Addressing a press meet at Udupi Press Club here on Wednesday, August 3, Fr. Baptist Menezes said that meanwhile the 50th anniversary celebration of the church will be also held. The statue of Mother Velankanniat Kalmadi was brought from the Velankanni Shrine in Tamil Nadu. On August 15, 1988, then Bishop of Mangalore diocese Most Rev Dr. Basil D’Souza installed the statue of Mother Velankanni.
The Solemnly High Eucharistic celebrations will be held at 10 am along with different dioceses bishops. During the Eucharistic celebrations, Velankanni Shrine will be officially declared as a Shrine of Udupi diocese on 15th August, 2022.
The Bishop of Udupi diocese, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop Emeritus of Mangalore Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Shimoga diocese Most Rev Dr Francis Serrao, Bishop of Bellary Diocese Most Rev Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Belthangadi Diocese Most Rev Dr. Lawrence Mukkui, Bishop of Puttur Diocese Most Rev Dr. Geevargis Makarios Kalayil will participate.
He said that along with the Bishops, Vicar General of Udupi diocese Monsignor Rev Dr. Baptist Menezes, Chancellor of Udupi diocese Very Rev Fr. Stany B Lobo, Udupi Deanery Dean Very Rev Fr. Charles Menezes and several priests will be present.
