Melbourne/Australia, 21 Jul 2022: The glitz and glamour of a ‘dinner dance party’ under the banner of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) captivated the Mangalorean Konkans in the bayside suburb of Aspendale on Saturday July 9. Attended by a large number of Konkans, the St Louis de Montfort’s Primary School Hall was a sea of glitter and gold, the colour theme for the evening.

Young girls and ladies dressed in sparkling fashionable gowns accompanied with glittery clutch bags stole the show; the young boys and men, gentle as they were, left not far behind with elegant suits with a golden tinge looking dapper with stylish bows/ties. It was a sight to behold!

From a red-carpet grand welcome at the entrance to be met and greeted by the core committee members; to the perfect gold and glitter backdrop for a fun-filled photo opportunity; to the beams of glittering ball lights with myriad spots of light spinning onto the stage; to the elegant table decorations - this year’s gala dinner dance after a long break due to the pandemic had it all. The hall filled to the brim, its ambience was breathtaking!

The band for the evening, PHOENIX kept everyone present swinging non-stop on their feet for their rhythmical mix of rock and roll, jive, country songs and modern pop. With the fine mix of mixes and remixes, the audience wouldn’t stop asking and demanding for more and more! When the band took a ‘break’ the DJ music of Bollywood hits kept the crowd on its feet. At its high point with the band back live, the ‘Baila’ went overtime with the clock ticking towards midnight with the dance floor overflowing to the hilt.

There were BYO drinks that complemented the sumptuous starters, delicious dinner and mouth-watering desserts that delighted one and all. The raffle was drawn and gifts were presented to the lucky winners of the day to complete the impressive night.

The great Chinese philosopher Confucius once said, ‘Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” During this freezing Melbourne winter, on this biting evening cold, this was a unique way of warming ourselves - meeting, greeting, embracing, chatting and dancing our hearts out with fellow Mangalorean Konkans who have made this gorgeous Australian city on the edge of the earth, their home.

MKC is a registered association based in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. It welcomes all Konkans residing in Melbourne to be a part of this growing community.
