Mangaluru: H Mogling, Mangaluru Samachar, 1st Kannada daily founder & editor remembered

Mangaluru, 02 Jul 2022: Dakshina Kannada district chapter of Karnataka Journalists Union organized Journalism Day and remembrance of Fr Herman Mogling, the founder and editor of Kannada’s first daily newspaper Mangaluru Samachar at Karnataka Theological College (KTC), Balmatta, here on Friday July 1.
Mangaluru south former MLA J R Lobo inaugurated the programme by garlanding flowers to the burst of Mogling at KTC premises.
Speaking on the occasion, Lobo said, ‘It’s the memorable event to acknowledge the role of Fr Mogling in launching the first ever Kannada daily at Mangaluru. He has enriched journalism, Kannada literature and contemporary literature. The new generation of Kannadigas ought to know about it.’
KTC principal Fr Dr H M Watson urged the state administration to erect the burst of Fr Mogling across Karnataka like Kannada dictionary compiler Kittel to get due recognition to Mogling.
Harish Bantwal, president of Dakshina Kannada district chapter of Karnataka Journalists Union conveyed best wishes for Journalism Day.
The general secretary Taranat Gatti Kapikad welcomed the gathering.
Karnataka Journalists Union vice president Laxman Kunder, office bearers Canute Pinto, Giridar Shetty, Mohan Bolangady, Richard Lasrado, Hameed Vittal and others were present.
