Milagres College Kallianpur celebrate ‘International Yoga Day’

Udupi, 22 Jun 2022: As the world at large woke up to celebrate ‘International Yoga Day, on 21st June, 2022, at 9.30 AM the spacious College quadrangle was filled with hundreds of students assembled to perform few asanas of yoga. It was a feast to the eyes both to watch and with them. Well-disciplined youth, in rows, different classes wearing varied colour uniforms, actively involved and participated in the basic yoga taught and performed by well-known Yoga Guru Mr Manjunath Patkhar, Sunaith International Foundation, a Trust popularising Yoga practice for good health and wellness, at various levels both in India and abroad………
To begin the parade, IQAC Co coordinator Dr Jayaram Shettigar informed the gathering, Milagres Institutions in general and College in particular, are / is one of the front runners to have Yoga Classes, way back in 90’s, much ahead of declaring this day as Global Yoga Day.
On behalf of the Students, Grace Reshal Lewis, I BCA, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and briefly introduced to the audience. Principal Dr Vincent Alva, shared his feelings with a call to students and teachers to ‘practice simple yogasana’s everyday, which will definitely keep all of us fit and fine’.
Yoga Guru, in his address reminded the gathering that “Yoga is a gift of our ancestors having a history of more than 2500 years as records state it was taught and practiced in ancient Takshashila and Nalanda heritage Universities……Let us reap the best outcome by cultivating daily habit of dedicating few minutes every day, for our own good. This will help us to concentrate in studies, control body and mind and fill the surrounding with positive energy….” he explained.
Prof Sophia Dias, Mrs Anupama Jogi, NSS Officer, members of the teaching faculty, non teaching staff who were present, enthusiastically joined the exercise with students.
Then the instructor taught few simple and preliminary asana’s to and in unison all followed him as the programme was lasted for about 45 minutes. To conclude the session Ms Sahana, I BCom A, proposed vote of thanks to all the participants and organisers, especially the NSS & NCC Units and volunteers.
