Mangaluru: KSHEMA STENCON-2021 emphasizes clinical translation of stem cell research

Mangluru, 22 Dec 2021: 4th biennial conference, KSHEMA STEMCON-2021 (virtual) was inaugurated on December 18 by N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University) on virtual set-up Deralakatte, here.
In his inaugural address, Hegde emphasized the urgent need of translational and clinical research on stem cells for their effective usage in treating various disorders and diseases in humans.
He later released the book on ‘Stem cells in orthopaedics and trauma’ authored by Prof M Shantharam Shetty, Dr B Mohana Kumar and Dr A Veena Shetty.
Prof M Shantharam Shetty, pro-chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) enlightened the importance of stem cells as the future of personalized medicine.
Prof B Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice-chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University) presided the programme. He highlighted the continued support of the University in advanced research areas of stem cells and other healthcare needs.
Prof M S Moodithaya, pro vice-chancellor, Rajendra M, director (finance), Dr Praveenkumar Shetty, director (R&D) of Nitte (Deemed to be University) were the guests of honor.
Prof P S Prakash, dean, KSHEMA delivered the welcome address and Prof K Jayaprakash Shetty, vice dean, KSHEMA proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Renita Castelino compered the programme.
The conference was organized by Nitte University Centre for Stem Cell Research & Regenerative Medicine, departments of orthopaedics, dermatology and ENT, K S Hegde Medical Academy and A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte (Deemed to be University).
