Mangaluru: A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences enters Limca Book of Records

Mangaluru, 12 Oct 2021: A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte, (Deemed to be University) along with Sindhi Youth Forum Charitable Trust, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and R V S Dental college entered the Limca Book of Records 2020–2022 for ‘Maximum Number of Complete Dentures Prepared and Delivered in a Single Day’.

 

The event called ‘Gift a Smile’ was held at Coimbatore, where 149 completely edentulous needy patients with no teeth were treated and were given Complete Dentures (full teeth set) in a Single Day free of cost.

 

A Team of 248 members consisting of 53 Doctors, 160 Interns along with 35 technicians, para medicals, and electricians participated in the event. Prof Dr U S Krishna Nayak, principal & dean along with Prof Dr N Sridhar Shetty, Founder Dean of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences also attended the event. The camp was headed by Prof Dr Chethan Hegde, Head, Department of Prosthodontics, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences.

 

The concept of Single Day Free denture camp was initiated to provide oral health care for completely edentulous geriatric patients from rural areas at their doorsteps as elderly patients have economical constraints and find it difficult to visit Dental Surgeons multiple times.

 

The idea was conceptualized for the first time in the county way back in the year 1990 by Prof Dr N Sridhar Shetty. Since then AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences has organized 73 camps not only at various places in Karnataka but also in neighbouring states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. A total of over 3000 edentulous patients were provided Full Dentures in a Single Day free of cost supported by the of Nitte, Deemed to be University.
