Udupi: Catholic Sabha honours Fr. Chetan Lobo for his book ‘Chetana Chintana’

Udupi, 19 Sept 2021: “It is sad to know that today’s youth are neglecting  their mother tongue and prefers more and more western  languages. They should use their own mother tongue more and more in their daily lives,” said Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Chancellor of the Udupi Diocese and Parish Priest of Udyavar Church. He was speaking as the chief guest at the Annual General Body  Meeting of the year 2020-21, Francis Danti Memorial Literature Award as well as prize distribution function for the winners of Denis D’Silva Memorial Essay Writing competition on Sunday, 19 September 2021.

 

Speaking further, Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo said that Konkani, in spite of being a lovely language has become a decorative language and is limited to religious services in the churches and as such Konkani language is losing its attraction among the youth.

 

On this occasion, Rev. Fr. Chetan Lobo (OFM Cap), the PRO of the Udupi Diocese was conferred with Francis Danti Literary Award for this year for his book “Chetana Chintana”. Dr. Gerald Pinto introduced Rev. Fr. Chetan Lobo.

 

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Essay Competition organized in memory of late Denis D’Silva. Alphonse D’Costa read the names of the winners.

 

 

During the programme “Old Men’s Club”, a satirical book written by Joseph Quadros and published by the Udupi Diocesan fortnightly ‘Uzwaad’ was released. Rev. Fr. Royson Fernandes, editor of ‘Uzwaad’ introduced the book and its writer to the audience.

 

On behalf of the Catholic Sabha, rich tribute was paid to late Oscar Fernandes, its founder president. The former president of the Catholic Sabha, Alphonse D’Costa recalled the service rendered by late Oscar Fernandes to the organization.

 

Mrs. Mary D’Souza presided over the Annual General Body Meeting of the Catholic Sabha for the year 2020-21. 

 

The report of the year 2019-20 was presented by the Joint Secretary Mrs. Olivia D’Mello. The annual report for the year 2020-21 was read by the Secretary Gregory P.K. D’Souza. Treasurer Gerald Rodrigues presented the accounts and proposed budget for the next year. Henry Menezes presented the report  of Manasa, Pamboor and the report of Sashakta Samudaya Trust was presented by president Walter Cyril Pinto.

 

Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonslaves-Spiritual Director of the Catholic Sabha, Robert menezes-immediate past president, Valerian Fernandes-former president, deanery presidents of the Catholic Sabha-Lavina Pereira, Udupi, Leena Machado-Shirva, Louis D’Souza-Kallianpur, Mabel D’Souza-Kundapur and Soloman Alvares-Karkal were present. 

 

President elect Santosh Cornelio welcomed the gathering. Secretary Gregory D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Mabel D’Souza anchored the programme.
