Mangaluru, 11 Jun 2021: Dakshina Kannada district Congress staged an unique protest ‘100 not out’ in front of petrol pump here on Friday, June 11 morning, against BJP-led Karnataka state and union government for the price of petrol that has crossed over Rs 100 per liter.
Addressing the protesters, the former Karnataka minister and veteran Congress leader B Ramanat Rai said, ‘The UPA-led union government had ensured that the price of petrol never to cross Rs 70 per liter despite the price per barrel was US $ 140 per barrel in international market. In spite of the international market witnesses less than the price per barrel quoted above, the reigning BJP-led union government has been hiking the price of petrol and petroleum products,’ said Rai.
Karnataka former MLC Ivan D’Souza said, ‘It’s when fuel prices steadily decrease; there would steep decline in prices of essential commodities. The fuel prices have direct bearing on commodities and services,’ said D’Souza. He questioned, ‘Where are the BJP leaders who used to protest when the fuel price was hiked even by Rs 1 per liter in the past?’
The former MLAs J R Lobo, Shakuntala Shetty and Moideen Bava, DK district Mahila Congress president Shalet Pinto, youth Congress leader Mitun Rai, Vinay Raj and party activists were present.
