Mangaluru: 72nd Republic Day celebrated with patriotic fervour

Mangaluru, 26 Jan 2021: The 72nd Republic Day celebration was held with patriotic fervour and sensational display of culture at Nehru Maidan here on Tuesday, January 26.
Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary hoisted the Indian tri-colour flag after receiving the guard of honor.
In his address, Kota Srinivas Poojary said, ‘As many as 43,939 beneficiaries have registered under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana till 2020. The department of backward classes welfare has approved 19 sites for the construction of hostels for the students. For the year 2020-21, the government has released Rs 280 lac to provide basic facilities to the colonies of scheduled caste. Under the Rs 100 crore of town development scheme of the municipal body, as many as 137 works have been completed and five works have been stopped,’ said Poojary.
‘The government has provided Rs 915 lac for diesel subsidy for the boats of fishermen, Rs 2,943 lac for the saving and compensation, Rs 16 lac under the Calamity Relief Fund, Rs 56 lac electricity subsidy for ice plants. Under the Paschimavahini Project, 1 work completed and 10 works are under progress,’ he added.
Geographically, Dakshina Kannada district has 4,77,149 square hectares. As per the 2011 census, there are 10,32,577 men, 10,51,048 women. There are 7 taluks, 331 villages and 230 gram panchayats, 5 town panchayats and 477 ration shops. The government has sanctioned Rs 3,500 lac to provide basic facilities and road repairs during the flood in the district. The government has sanctioned Rs 1.8881 crore to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation under flood victims’ rehabilitation programme. The government has released Rs 10.4077 lac to 485 farmers under the natural calamities of the Horticulture department for the year 2020, from April 1 to December 31.
‘Till December 31, 2020, the government has distributed Rs 20,000 for each case under the social security scheme of the revenue department. For the year 2021, the government has released Rs 90.80 lac as per guidance of Tahsildar. In the district, 3,502 cases have been approved and distribution of grants is pending. There is a need of Rs 700.40 lac Pension application under the social security have been disposed of on time. For the year, 2021 under Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Yojana, physically 75% and economically 70% goals have been achieved.
‘All the works of the Bahu Gram Drinking Water project have been completed. As many as 1,173 houses completed and 5,744 works of the houses are pending under the housing department. For the year 2021, as many as 1,586 LPG connections have been provided under the CM’s Anila Bhagya Yojana,’ he said.
