Udupi/M’Belle: Deepavali and Children’s Day Celebration Marks the Inauguration of Renovated Lions Se

Udupi/M’Belle, 17 Nov 2020: The renovated Lions Seva Bhavan of the Lions Club, Moodubelle was inaugurated on Monday, 16 November 2020 at 6.30 pm by the Vice Chairman of Lions 317 Districts Multiple   Vice Chairman- Ln. Ronald Gomes along with the celebration of Deepavali and Children’s Day.

 

The first event of the day was the flag hoisting on the newly set up flag post by Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM), Chartered President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. 

 

The chief guest, Ln. Ronald Gomes planted a sapling to commemorate his visit to the Lions Club of Moodubelle.

 

Prior to the inauguration of the renovated Lions Seva Bhavan, Children’s Day was observed by the Leo Club by organizing games for the children in the premises of the Seva Bhavan. Leo Joyce Fernandes, President of the Leo Club along with Ln. Neville D’Souza and Ln. Wilson D’Souza conducted three games and winners as well as all the children were given prizes. 

 

As part of the Deepavali celebration, the dignitaries including Ln. and Mrs. Ronald Gomes , District Governor Ln. N.M. Hegde, PDG Ln. Wilfred D’Souza, First VDG Ln. Vishwanath Shetty, Region Chairman Ln. Stephen Castelino, Assistant Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle Fr. Jithesh Castelino lighted the traditional lamp at the entrance of the Lions Seva Bhavan. Meanwhile the lamps lined up at the periphery of the compound wall were lighted. Fireworks enhanced the aura of the Deepavali celebration. 

At 6.30 pm, Ln. Ronald Gomes along with other guests inaugurated the renovated Lions Seva Bhavan by cutting the ribbon.

 

Fr. Jithesh Castelino delivered the benedictory invocation and wished well to all the activities of the Lions Club of Moodubelle.

 

The inauguration was followed by the stage programme which was presided over by Ln. Anil D’Mello-President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. Other dignitaries on the dais included Ln. and Mrs. Ronald Gomes, Ln. M.N. Hegde, Ln. Wilfred D’Souza, Ln. Vishwanath Shetty, Ln. Stephen Castelino, Ln. Rajendra Shetty-Zone Chairman, Ln. Gerald Fernandes-Leo District Coordinator, Ln. Devdas Hebbar-Secretary, Ln. Neville D’Souza-Treasurer and  Leo Joyce Fernandes-Leo Club President.

 

Following the welcome address by Ln. Anil D’Mello, Ln. Gerald Fernandes narrated the progress of the Lions Club of Moodubell during the last 23 years and the expansion and improvement of the Lions Seva Bhavan.

 

After lighting the lamp to mark the inauguration of the programme, Ln. N.M. Hegde in his Deepavali message said that in the darkness of the Covid 19 Pandemic the Deepavali celebration has spread the light of hope. He further said that Deepavali being the festival of light should drive away the darkness of social evils and cleans the inner self of the individuals and the pollution that has been ruining the environment. 

 

The Leo members who had collected Rs. 55,000/- for the renovation of the Lions Seva Bhavan handed over the amount to Ln. Vishwanath Shetty who in turn handed it over to Ln. Anil D’Mello, President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle.

The donors to the renovation of the Lions Seva Bhavan were honoured during this occasion.  

 

In his inaugural address, Ln. Ronald Gomes complimented the Lions Club members for having renovated their own building the Lions Seva Bhavan. He also extended the Deepavali greetings to all the members and their families and explained the meaning and significance of the celebration of Deepavali. 

 

PDG Ln. Wilfred D’Souza and First VDG Ln. Vishwanath Shetty also spoke on this occasion. 

 

Two of the Leo members Leo Joy Fernandes and Leo Devan Castelino celebrated their birthday by cutting a cake.

 

Ln. Devdas Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks and Leo Joy Fernandes and Leo Sharline D’Almeida compeered the programme.
