Mangaluru: Konkani singer Anita D’Souza bags Carvalho Family 16th Kalakar Puraskar

Mangaluru, 28 Oct 2020: Konkani singer Anita D’Souza bagged Carvalho Family 16th Kalakar Puraskar for her distinct contribution to Konkani music, stated the media release issued by Mandd Sobhann, Konkani organization striving to promote Konkani and its rich culture worldwide.
Anita has sung songs in 12 languages: Konkani, Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Arabic and Beary including Navayat Konkani. She had cast her voice in over 500 albums in India and GCC countries and over 3,000 events. She also sang as playback singer in several movies. She has released Konkani albums – Yaad and Colors.
She is the recipient of Kala Tilaka from Kerala state government, Tulunada Gana Kogile by Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy in 2006, Vishwa Gadinada Rani Kogile in 2011, World Konkani Sangeet Puraskar and Top Singer in 2014 by Mandd Sobhann.
Anita is the native of Bela in Kasargod district settled in Kuloor, Mangaluru but works in Abu Dhabi. The award was conferred in recognition of her contribution to Konkani music.
The Puraskar will be handed over to Anita in Abu Dhabi by NRI entrepreneur Leo Rodrigues owing to Covid-19 situation in Mangaluru.

Konkani scholar Fr Dr Pratap Naik had instituted Carvalho Family Kalakar Award in 2005, to honor the distinguished artiste of Karnataka origin who has contributed significantly to Konkani music, folk dance, theater, folklore etc.
