Mangaluru: College of Fisheries release research works to commemorate golden jubilee

Mangaluru, 05 Jul 2020: Karnataka state fisheries, ports, hinterland transport and Dakshina Kannada district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary released golden jubilee souvenir of Fisheries College of Mangaluru that was founded in 1969 and functions under Agricultural University, Bengaluru, here on Friday July 3. The souvenir consists of research works undertaken by fisheries scientist in the past 50 years.
Speaking on the occasion, Poojary urged the scientists in developing fish varieties that multiplies faster in nature ponds by incorporating modern technology.
The sericulture is catching up among the coastal farmers that ought to be met by the scientists by developing fish varieties for both sweet water and backwater fishing, appealed Poojary.
In his presidential address, Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamat said, ‘There is a growing need to developing technology to grow sea weeds as it would be provide leafy vegetables good for healthy living. It’s also used in medicines. It would also supplement the income of fisheries community living along the coast to take up its farming,’ said Kamat.
Fisheries College dean Dr A Sentil Vel delivered the preliminary address and said the research works published in golden jubilee souvenir would also be of much help of fellow scientists.
Prof Dr A T Ramachandra Naik said that the souvenir would serve as handbook for worldwide scientists in their research work.
Mangaluru mayor Divakar Pandeshwar, deputy mayor Vedavati, Hoige Bazaar ward corporator Revati Shyam Sunder, Mangaluru Smart City Limited CEO Mohammed Nazir was present.
The professors and staff were present on the occasion. Assistant Professor Dr Kumar Naik proposed vote of thanks. Dr Ramachandra compered the programme.
