Bantwal, 02 Jul 2020: The Congress party activists held a walkathon from Kaikamba to B C Road Junction, here on Monday June 29, to protest against union government led by BJP for hiking the prices of diesel and petrol.
Addressing the protesters, veteran Congress leader and Karnataka former minister Ramanath Rai alleged that despite crude oil prices have crashed in international market, PM Modi led union government is hiking the prices of petrol and diesel.
He also said, ‘Despite crude oil was sold in international market @ US 140 per barrel during UPA rule; diesel and petrol prices were less than Rs 60 per liter. The steady hike in prices of petroleum products after Covid-19 lockdown likely to cause inflation of essential commodities,’ alleged Rai.
The protesters condemned the price hike by tying ropes to a jeep and pulling during walkathon.
The protesters presented a memorandum to Tahsildar to forward the same to union government and Karnataka CM B S Yeddyurappa.
