Mangaluru: QR Code based Aaadhaar card mandatory for fishermen – Minister K Srinivas Poojary

Mangaluru, 01 Jul 2020: Dakshina Kannada district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary announced that the state department of fisheries will issue a circular to make QR Code based Aaadhaar card mandatory for fishermen. It’s an innovative solution of an encrypted QR code on Aadhaar cards to verify antecedents of marine fishermen.
Poojary was speaking after inaugurating seminar on fisheries at Netravati auditorium of DK ZP, here on Tuesday June 30.
‘QR Code based Aadhaar cards are essential to maintain updated info to protect fishermen who are fishing in deep waters. Meanwhile, the plans are afoot to issue such cards through Seva Sindhu portal maintained by district administration or through fisheries department, said Poojary.
He also said, ‘The farmers avail state benefits through Kissan Cards. Fisheries is also a part of farming, but limits the benefits to fishermen. A few participants at the seminar expressed their views that fishermen should also get state facilities at par with Kissan cardholders. Minister replied that the issue will be discussed with fisheries director, lead bank manager and related officers and brought to the attention of DyCM, assured Poojary.
ZP president Meenakshi Shantigodu, Karwar MLA Rupali Naik, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Mangaluru south MLA Vedavyas Kamat, fisheries director Ramakrishna and others were present.
