Mangaluru: Civic body makes mandatory for people to wear face masks to curb Covid-19

Mangaluru, 19 Jun 2020: The civic body made it mandatory for people to wear face masks to combat spread of Covid-19. In order to create general awareness, civic body held a walkathon from in front of municipal headquarters along M G Road, here on Thursday, June 18 at 10.30am to observe Mask Day. It was led by mayor Divakar.
The general public were sensitized over mandatorily wearing face masks through walkathon to curb community transmission of Novel Corona Virus, frequently wash hands with soap, use sanitizers and maintain social distancing.
The deputy mayor Vedavati, municipal commissioner Shanady Ajit Kumar Hegde, municipal health officials and staff and office bearers of different steering committees were present.
It was announced that the offenders who were found not wearing face masks will have to pay a fine of Rs 200.
The civic body had collected Rs 54,800 by registering 274 cases from the offenders in the past 2 months of Covid-19 nationwide lockdown.
