Bengaluru, 18 Jun 2020: On Wednesday June 17, the Supreme Court (SC) quashed the appeal filed seeking cancellation of the proposed SSLC examination in the state which is proposed to be held from June 25 onward. With this, a big hurdle that was threatening to derail the process stands cleared. Now, the government is free to conduct the examination as planned in a smooth and orderly manner.

Rajashree and some others had preferred a special appeal in the SC against the high court order dated May 27 paving way for the conduct of the examination. The appeal was referred to the three-judge bench of Justice L Nageshwar Rao, Justice Krishna Murari, and Justice S Raveendra Bhat on Wednesday.

After hearing the arguments of the petitioners and representation of the government, the SC upheld the order of the high court, duly dismissing the appeal.

Advocate general Prabhulinga Nagavadagi, appearing for Karnataka state through video conference, justified the state government’s decision to hold the examination by following all precautions. He also argued that this is in the best interests of the students.

The court after hearing the pleas, permitted to hold SSLC examination, duly following all the safety measures. The standard operating procedure framed by the secondary education examination board was also found to be in order by the bench.
