Mangaluru: Mining dept seizes huge haul of sand in 2 sites in Mangaluru taluk

Mangaluru, 18 Jun 2020: The mining and geological department, revenue and police, in a joint operation raided mafia working on illegal mining of sand in Netravati River at Adyar Katte, near here on Tuesday, June 16 at 3.00am.
The police seized 1 Tata Hitachi, 1 JCB, 11 iron pipes of 20 feet long with 6 inch diameter, 18 drums, 9 plastic pipes, 3 fiber boxes, sand laden 2 tipper trucks and illegally stored 700 metric tons of sand that was shifted to stockyard set up at Malali, near here by DK district administration.
The police also raided the illegal sand mining at the railway bridge near Malavoor vented dam, in Mangaluru taluk on June 16 at 3.00am. The sleuths seized 1 dredger that was handed over to Kavoor police station nearby. The police also seized 50 metric tons of sand stored in a plot owned by a landlord who was instructed not to allow such illegal activities in the future.
The police are registering 2 cases under Criminal Procedure Code 200 for illegal mining and transporting sand.
