Udupi: Lions Club, Moodubelle distributes 100 Ration Kits to needy people

Udupi/M’Belle, 16 Apr 2020: In the wake of the extension of the lockdown following the outbreak of COVID 19 the misery of the daily wage earners has increased due to lack of daily wage earning. As a result many of the daily wage earners have lost their livelihood and have been finding it difficult to feed themselves and their families. 

 

Realizing the difficulties of the daily wage earners, the members of the Lions Club of Moodubelle made arrangements to distribute around 100 ration kits to the needy people on Thursday, 16 April 2020 at 10.30 am in the Lions Seva Bhavan. The members of the Lions Club of Moodubelle  raised contribution at the rate of Rs. 500/- per kit. The members also identified the needy people in their respective areas and submitted the names of such needy persons to Ln. Elias D’Souza, Secretary of the Lions Club of Moodubelle.  Each of the 100 ration kits comprised of rice, pulses, onion, potato, sugar, tea-powder, cooking oil, soap, spices, etc.   

A brief programme to distribute the ration kits was held at the Lions Seva Bhavan at 10.30 am. Dayanand Bennur-Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) and Pradeep Kumar-Village Acountant (VA) were the guests. The programme was presided over by Ln. Denis Martis-President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. Other dignitaries on the dais were Ln. Gerald Fernandes-Region Chairman and Ln. Elias D’Souza-Secretary of the Lions Club of Moodubelle.

 

In his introductory address, Ln. Gerald Fernandes highlighted the need for the lockdown and the problems faced by the daily wage earners.  He also stressed on the need to physical distancing. He made an appeal to the members of the Lions Club to generously donate to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. 

 

In his message, Dayanand Bennur lauded the social service activities undertaken by the Lions Club of Moodubelle and appreciated the concern  of the members regarding the flight of the daily wage earners and their contribution in providing them the ration kits.

 

President Ln. Denis Martis welcomed the gathering and Ln. Elias D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

 

The Lion members took the responsibility of taking the ration kits to their respective areas and distributing them to the needy people that they had identified.
