Mangaluru: District health dept fully prepared to combat COVID-19 after 1st suspected case

Mangaluru, 10 Mar: DK district DC Sindhu instructed the officials to coordinate in identifying COVID-19 suspected cases and quarantine them.

 

Addressing the meeting of health officials, heads of private medical colleges and Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) officials at the district headquarters, here on Monday, March 9, DC Sindhu cited the first suspected case of COVID-19 by a international passengers who arrived at MIA; she advised the airport officials to screen all passengers by the doctors and send suspected passengers in an ambulance to District Wenlock Hospital. If the suspected passengers express their desire to admit them in a private hospital of their choice that should be taken care off. Meanwhile, if such passengers refuse to be hospitalized; they ought to be hospitalized in the interest of public health hazard.

 

 

She also said that doctors of private hospitals will be working on rota at MIA with effect from March 10. DHO will personally oversee the arrangements on daily basis.

 

She urged the passengers arriving on overseas flights to cooperate with health officials who would maintain confidentiality of their information.

 

A passenger who arrived from overseas flight at MIA on Sunday, March 8 was found to have been suffering from fever. He was placed in an isolation ward at District Wenlock Hospital. His blood samples were sent to AIIMS and are awaiting for their report, said DC.

 

There is no need for public to worry about the scare as district administration is prepared to face such epidemic.

 

ADC M J Rupa, DHO Dr Sikander Pasha, sub division officer Madan Mohan, urban development cell project director Gayatri Nayak, District Wenlock Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rajeshwari Devi, heads of private medical colleges, officials of NMPT and MIA were present.
