Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann presents Konkani play, Chor Charandas, as 216th Monthly Theater

Mangaluru, 09 Dec: Mandd Sobhann, city-based Konkani organization striving to promote Konkani and its distinct culture worldwide, presented Konkani play, Chor Charandas, as 216th Monthly Theater at Kalaangann, Makale, Shaktinagar, here on Sunday, December 8 evening.
It was staged by the artistes of Kalakul, lone Konkani theater repertory, promoted by Mandd Sobhann. Arun Raj Rodrigues translated the original Hindi play of Habib Tanveer into Konkani, directed by both Arun Raj and Manish of Kalakul. Praveen Prabhu provided the playback music. Naveen Lobo oversaw the entire arrangements.
Konkani Natak Sabha® vice president Sunil Menezes inaugurated the programme by ringing the bell.
Stany Alvares welcomed the dignitaries with flower bouquets to the dais.
The two-hundred-sixteenth Monthly Theater was sponsored by NRI entrepreneur Michael D’Souza Dubai.
Habib Tanveer had recreated the original Rajasthani play by Vijaydan Deta into Hindi folk play, while it became a bollywood movie directed by Shyam Benagal. The versatile actor Smita Patil enacted the lead role in that movie. The play was translated into many Indian languages including Kannada and Tulu.
It was in 18-years history of Mandd Sobhann, the 216th Monthly Theater that used to be held in first Sunday of month and scheduled on December 1 had to be postponed to December 8, owing to untimely rains.
