Mangaluru: ICYM Cordel Unit organises Road Repair and Swatch Bharath Abhiyan

Mangaluru, 02 Oct: On the occasion of 150th birthday celebration of the ‘Father of the  Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Cordel Unit organised ’Road Repair and Swatch Bharath Abhiyan’ on Tuesday, 2 October 2019.

 

The programme began with the inaugural ceremony at 8.30 am. Ex Mayor, Bhaskara K. was present and appreciated the youth for taking such an initiative. Rev. Fr. Victor Machado, Parish Priest  of Cordel  church spoke at this occasion and congratulated the youth for conducting the programme outside the church premises.

 

 

Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council Loy Noronha and Secretary Saturnine Monteiro, ICYM President Rahul Sequeira were present. Meenal Pinto compered the programme.

 

The ICYM members were divided into two teams, one team headed from the church premises towards Kaikamba by cleaning and removing the plastics and non degradable wastes besides the road. Other team filled the potholes which were causing uneasiness for the travellers from the past two months. A total of 60 youth and around 25 parishioners participated in the programme. Along with  the Youth The auto rickshaw drivers and Kiran Enterprises extended a helping hand for this noble cause.
